Russia pounds missile warehouses across Ukraine

The overnight barrage targeted seven sites storing and producing long-range Flamingos and other weaponry, the Defense Ministry has said Russian forces unleashed an overnight barrage on Ukrainian facilities producing and storing long-range weaponry, including several sites tied to the domestically developed FP-5 Flamingo missile, the Defense Ministry in Moscow has said.

In a statement on Wednesday, the ministry said high-precision weapons and drones struck military-related targets in Kiev and its suburbs, as well as Chernigov, Kirovograd, Dnepropetrovsk, Poltava and Kharkov Regions.

In Kiev, the attacks targeted a Smart Ammunition facility used to assemble and store FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles, FP-9 tactical ballistic missiles and components for both.

Another strike hit a Fanplit facility in the Ukrainian capital producing Flamingo components and FP-1 and FP-2 long-range drones, as well as the Kiev Cardboard and Paper Mill, which housed FP-5 missiles.

The ministry said an AvtoKrAZ facility in Poltava Region producing specialized chassis for Flamingo launchers was also struck, along with a mechanical plant in Kharkov Region that assembled and stored Flamingos.

Ukrainian officials claim it has a range of up to 3,000 km and can carry a warhead weighing more than one ton at a maximum speed of about 950km/h.

Fire Point CEO Irina Terekh told The Guardian in July that the company was producing about 100 Flamingos per month, although it is unclear whether the number is sustainable due to Russian strikes.

Apart from the missile facilities, the attacks struck a drone workshop in Kirovograd Region, the JTI Ukraine tobacco factory in Kremenchug, which is used to manufacture small-arms ammunition, and the Danube Shiprepair facility at the port of Izmail, which is now being used for producing and storing maritime drones, Russian officials said.

The ministry added that a dry cargo vessel carrying military and dual-use supplies was hit in Odessa port.

Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky claimed that Russia had launched 70 missiles, many of them ballistic, as well as attack drones, arguing that “one of the key targets was our energy infrastructure.” In Kiev, Mayor Vitaly Klitschko reported hits on non-residential facilities and fires at warehouse premises.
