NYPD searches for suspect who threw furniture at 90-year-old woman on sidewalk

Police are searching for a suspect after a 90-year-old woman was attacked while walking along a Brooklyn sidewalk earlier this week, with surveillance video obtained by a local news station appearing to capture the violent encounter.

The assault happened around 9:47 a.m.

Monday outside 501 Brighton Beach Ave. in the Brighton Beach neighborhood, according to the New York City Police Department (NYPD).

Police said the woman was walking when an unidentified man approached and threw a piece of furniture at her, causing her to fall to the ground before fleeing on foot in an unknown direction.

The impact knocks the woman to the pavement as the suspect appears to calmly continue walking away.

Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and transported the woman to NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island, where she was listed in stable condition, police said.

SUSPECT ALLEGEDLY SPAT ON WOMAN BEFORE TACKLING HER IN LATE-NIGHT STORE ATTACK NEAR UPENN CAMPUS Police have not identified a motive for the attack, and it was not immediately clear whether the suspect and victim knew each other.

The suspect remains at large.

He is described as wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, black pants and white sneakers at the time of the attack.

Anyone with information about the suspect's identity or whereabouts is asked to contact the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).

Tips can also be submitted online through the Crime Stoppers website or by messaging @NYPDTips on X.

Police said all calls and tips will be kept confidential.
