How to Argue in the Trump Era Without Losing Your Mind

Subscribe here: Apple Podcasts | Spotify | YouTube In this episode of The David Frum Show , The Atlantic ’s David Frum opens with his reaction to the shooting at the Sons of Jacob Synagogue in Ontario on Yom Kippur.

David discusses the rise of violence against Jews around the world, and why condemnations of anti-Semitic violence ring hollow when they come from people who spread myths about Jewish conspiracies.

Then, David is joined by Jessica Tarlov, the co-host of The Five on Fox News and the Raging Moderates podcast.

They talk about her new book, I Disagree: Winning Arguments Without Losing Friends , and how her upbringing helped shape her ability to disagree cordially.

David and Jessica also discuss when to debate someone versus when to ignore them so as not to give them a platform.

Finally, David ends the show with a review of the novel Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke.

The following is a transcript of the episode: David Frum: Hello, and welcome to The David Frum Show.

I’m David Frum, a staff writer at The Atlantic.

My guest this week will be Jessica Tarlov, co-host of the Fox News program The Five and author of the new book I Disagree: Winning Arguments Without Losing Friends.

She’s also the co-host with Scott Galloway of the Raging Moderates podcast.

The book for discussion this week will be a much-acclaimed new novel, Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke, and I’ll be discussing that at the bottom of the program.

On the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, the most holy day of the Jewish year, a gunman opened fire on the synagogue in this Canadian town, the Ontario town of Belleville.

Many of the details of this incident remain a little murky, but what we do have is: The alleged gunman, the apparent gunman, is in hospital, and so is a police officer who gallantly came to the rescue of the synagogue.
