Her predecessor, Karoline Leavitt, left the role to spend more time with her two young children.

"Though my work will be demanding, they will always be a priority," Zacharia said of her children.

At her first briefing as White House press secretary on Tuesday, Katie Zacharia fielded a personal question.

Elina Shirazi, senior political correspondent at The Daily Mail, asked Zacharia how she planned to manage work and family in her new White House role, citing Karoline Leavitt 's decision to leave the job in August to spend more time with her two young children.

Leavitt has previously spoken about the toll that serving as White House press secretary took on her family, telling Tucker Carlson in a September podcast interview that "being a working mom was the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life." Zacharia, who has four children ranging in age from 6 to 12, said that Leavitt had been "an incredible support" who gave "great and wonderful feedback" on balancing career and family as a working mother.

She also acknowledged the demanding nature of the role.

"I think this job is not one you necessarily balance," Zacharia said. 'They will always be a priority' White House press secretary Katie Zacharia with President Donald Trump on the South Lawn of the White House.

"They are my priority.

I love being with my kids," she said.

"The idea of not spending evenings with my kids is completely unacceptable." Zacharia also shared that she stayed home with her children from 2014 to 2020 and would often bring them to the Fox News bureau where she worked as a political commentator when she returned to work.

"I intend to, to the extent possible, include my family, include my kids in my work," she said.
