Guilfoyle Facing Trump Administration Pressure as Democrats Call for Firing

Photo Illustration by Thomas Levinson/The Daily Beast/Getty Kimberly Guilfoyle faces growing pressure inside the Trump administration as Democrats call for her to be fired over claims she abused her role as ambassador to Greece.

Guilfoyle, 57, a former prosecutor and Fox News personality previously engaged to Donald Trump Jr., is under fire after a bombshell Wall Street Journal report this week that she asked a MAGA donor to pay off a $100,000 credit card bill in exchange for political favors once she took office.

Those accusations come after the newspaper’s earlier revelations that she told Greek officials during a formal dinner that the U.S. could destabilize “any country we want,” that she used diplomatic engagements to lobby for a private Greek company, and that she gave one of that firm’s lobbyists privileged access to senior officials and foreign leaders.

A source with behind-the-scenes knowledge of U.S.-Greek relations told The Hill on Friday that Guilfoyle’s alleged misconduct, which she denies, was a “clown show.” They added that it had cemented a perception that the Trump administration’s foreign policy can be bought, and that the president’s family and allies are “the merchants” of that culture.

The inspector general at the State Department, where Guilfoyle works, has now opened an investigation into “allegations surrounding Guilfoyle’s potential substance abuse, use of private planes and helicopters, close relationship with an energy and construction company, improper gift acceptance and more,” according to the Daily Mail .

The probe comes as Democrats push to remove the ambassador from office and potentially pursue legal action over the claims against her.

“Ambassador Guilfoyle must be fired and if she broke the law, which seems highly likely, prosecuted,” Northern Virginia Rep.

Don Beyer posted on X Thursday.

He added that “accepting large sums of cash in exchange for access or favors using her official position would obviously run afoul” of “federal laws and regulations.” Reps.

James Walkinshaw, Dave Min, and Raja Krishnamoorthi have similarly called for the Justice Department to take action against Guilfoyle.

Rep.

Robert Garcia, the ranking Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, has meanwhile launched an inquiry into Guilfoyle’s alleged pay-to-play arrangement, demanding that she produce financial records and correspondence by October 22.

The Daily Beast has contacted the White House, the State Department, and the U.S.

Embassy in Greece for comment on this story.
