LOC for 2027 CWC satisfied with the progress made to St George’s Park

SABC News Sport ·

The Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2027 Cricket World Cup says it’s satisfied with the progress made to prepare the St George’s Park cricket ground in Gqeberha for the tournament.

The facility will host five matches in ICC men’s event next year.

The committee visited the stadium as part of its 12 city and three nation venue inspections across South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe.

The stadium, with a seating capacity of about 19 000, is undergoing a major facelift for the World Cup.

Chief Operation Officer for Cricket World Cup 2027 LOC Edward Khoza says they are satisfied with the readiness they have seen so far.

“I don’t think that this test match against Australia would have taken place if certain things are not ready.

What is very important is that we’ve been to SuperSport Park to Wanderers and venues are ready.

Just the way things have been done since our RAC in April and if there is still any adjustment we still one more off season to be able to do that World Cup will take place.”
