Koeberg hosts media tour for the first time in 40-years
As South Africa continues to strengthen its electricity security, attention is turning to the safety, reliability and long-term sustainability of Koeberg Nuclear Power Station.
The facility has hosted a media tour described as the first of its kind in its 40-year history, creating an opportunity to engage officials on its operations and recent challenges.
This comes as investigations continue into a turbine trip at Unit One and seawater intake challenges linked to a sardine influx.
Chief Nuclear Officer, Velaphi Ntuli, “So Unit 2 is currently in a planned outage, so we did our maintenance and it is one of the major maintenance that we do after replacing our steam generators which we did in the last outage.
So, we at the end back of that outage soon we will be loading fuel and starting up that unit, so that is where we are it’s in the maintenance outage.
We expect the maintenance outage to finish somewhere in November, Unit 1 that is why you could not go it’s running that will be in outage somewhere in May next year.”
