Kenyan pastor Mackenzie guilty of murdering 191 people

SABC News ·

A Kenyan court has found Paul Mackenzie and about 30 co-accused guilty of murdering 191 people, including 190 children, in what has been described as one of the world’s worst cult-related disasters in recent history.

Prosecutors say Mackenzie ordered followers of his Good News International Church to starve themselves and their children to death to reach heaven before the world ended.

More than 400 bodies have been recovered from the Shakahola Forest since the tragedy was uncovered in 2023.

Mackenzie denied the murder charges, he and his co-accused will be sentenced on November 6.
