W.Cape calls on e-hailing operators to elect representative council
The Western Cape Mobility Department has called on the e-hailing and metered taxi sector to establish a leadership structure for the industry.
It says valid operating licence holders should vote and nominate candidates to elect an e-hailing and Metered Taxi Council.
Spokesperson Muneera Allie says it is important that the industry, with around 3500 operators, has a credible and representative voice.
“Mobility Month is about recognising the many people and services that keep our province moving,” says Allie.
Cape Town police have arrested five suspects, including two women and a teenager, after rescuing a 25-year-old e-hailing driver from a horrific ordeal in Heathfield. https://t.co/rdidhU53lf https://t.co/72LohB4Svs — SABC News (@SABCNews) September 13, 2026 Allie says e-hailing and metered taxi operators form an important part of that system.
“It is important that they have a credible and representative voice.
We encourage every eligible operator to register, participate and vote, and to play a role in shaping the future representation of the industry,” adds Allie.
