An off-duty police officer is lucky to have escaped unscathed after being kidnapped and robbed.
An off-duty police constable escaped uninjured after being kidnapped and robbed at a guesthouse on Buckingham Road in Mount Croix, Gqeberha, on Monday night.
Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa said: “Three unidentified suspects targeted the guesthouse and stole personal items after failing to find cash.”
“During the robbery, the suspects insisted on having all rooms opened, stealing a television set alongside the tenant's personal effects. Upon searching the rooms and discovering that the tenant was a police officer, they seized his property, bound and blindfolded him, and then drove away with him in their vehicle.”
Following the traumatic ordeal, the officer was safely released and is now receiving professional support. Meanwhile, a dedicated investigative team has been assembled to locate the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
Mawisa said: “The circumstances surrounding the incident, including the motive, are currently being investigated.”
The SAPS leadership in the Eastern Cape commended the officer's courage, wishing him strength during his recovery from the ordeal.
Anyone with information that could aid the investigation should call the SAPS Crime Stop number at 08600 10111 or visit their nearest police station.
