ANC to unveil 2026 local government election manifesto in Diepsloot
African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa will unveil his party’s 2026 local government election manifesto at Riverside Park in Diepsloot north of Johannesburg later on Sunday morning.
The party says the Manifesto is informed by an assessment of the implementation of the 2021 Local Government Elections Manifesto and the ANC’s vision to strengthen local government and improve the quality of life of all South Africans.
Speaking at the announcement of the party’s nominees for mayoral positions in eight metros and 22 secondary cities on Saturday, Ramaphosa said the manifesto is a product of the people of South Africa.
“It is the result of extensive consultation with our alliance partners, the broader democratic movement, various sectors of society and communities. The manifesto will set out in detail the program of delivery that our elected councillors and mayors will be expected to implement. For more than three decades, the ANC has been trusted in local government because we remain committed to building a better life for all. We will not fail the people who trusted us with their votes.”
Instead of unveiling its mayoral candidates on Saturday as initially indicated, the ANC chose to reveal the names of people who have been interviewed as its potential mayoral candidates. It said the official announcement of successful candidates will only be made during the course of next month.
