Political violence affecting campaigning in some areas: ANC’s Ntuli
The African National Congress (ANC) has appealed to residents of Ward 98 in Umgababa, on KwaZulu-Natal’s South Coast, to share information that could assist investigations into the murders of two of its members.
ANC elections coordinator Lungani Makhathini and ANC Youth League member Nokuthula Mavundla were shot dead during door-to-door campaigning on Thursday.
Three other people were wounded.
The party’s head of elections, Mdumiseni Ntuli says political violence has affected the ANC’s campaigning in some areas.
“People is going to have to intervene in the areas where the people legitimately like yesterday would be worried and be relucted and go out and campaign.
We who are the leadership of the organisation will have to go to those communities to talk to our volunteers, talk to the public in general and say to them even before liberation this country was liberated by very brave and courageous men and women and we must not allow a situation where after liberation few elements in our society are intervening to undermine the continuation of that democratic process.” Video: ANC condemns gunning down of two members at Umgababa
