Joburg Water urges reduced water consumption

SABC News South Africa ·

Johannesburg Water is urging residents and businesses to reduce consumption urgently and comply with level one water restrictions, which include limiting garden watering and swimming pool filling during the day.

The water utility warned that continued high consumption could lead to a system collapse and prolonged water supply interruptions.

Johannesburg Water spokesperson Nombuso Shabalala says they will also intensify bi-law enforcement in areas with illegal water connections.

“Residents are urged to use water sparingly and to prevent further strain and reduce the risk of a system collapse.

Johannesburg Water will implement water conservation and water demand management interventions.

This will include targeted water supply restrictions, particularly in areas with high water losses, excessive wastage, and low payment levels.”
