SIU probes fraudulent transfer of 208 Ekurhuleni stands
The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) says 208 vacant stands valued at R58-million were fraudulently transferred from the Ekurhuleni Municipality to private hands in Villa Liza, Boksburg, between 2018 and 2022.
The stands were initially sold for about R18 000 each and later resold for around R250 000.
The transfers happened without a council resolution and the municipality received no money.
The SIU says forged rates clearance certificates and powers of attorney were used.

Lekgetho briefing the media in Pretoria, “The municipality will now engage with the people, they will engage in order to know what further process they going to do because, the people have paid and the municipality is not gaining any revenue from that land.
For us it’s to make sure we do the right thing, which is to bring back the land then from there the municipality can engage as to what is that they are going to do.” #SIUWorkingForYou | #SIUWorkingForYou | The Head of the Special Investigating Unit (SIU), Mr Leonard Lekgetho, now presents the outcome of the investigation in stands in Villa Liza. https://t.co/yrMyGDo5vA pic.twitter.com/1CCntUOsDz — Special Investigating Unit (SIU) (@RSASIU) September 16, 2026 Credit: Thato Letsaba
