Gauteng Education probing rape allegations against Soweto teacher
The Gauteng Education Department says it has dispatched officials to investigate and establish details surrounding a rape incident involving a nine-year-old learner and allegedly a teacher at a school in Zola, Soweto.
The alleged incident is reported to have taken place at the Busisiwe Primary School premises.
Earlier today, parents and community members protested outside the school, demanding swift action and the immediate removal of the teacher.
MEC Lebogang Maile says the department will await a detailed report before taking any action on the matter.
“I will be receiving that report tonight, after which we will make a determination.
This is a sensitive matter, and it has to be dealt with the sensitivity that it deserves, and we are definitely on the side of the learner or the victim, because we can’t take this matter for granted.
That’s why we want to get to the bottom of it and make sure that we don’t commit errors in handling and dealing with this matter because we have seen previously matters being kicked out of courts because they’ve not been managed properly,” says Maile.
