A signed affidavit, a refused police stamp and the arrest of an alleged MP

A 33-year-old woman, alleged to be an EFF MP, was arrested on Thursday night for allegedly causing a commotion and assaulting a police officer at the South African Police Service (SAPS) Brooklyn Client Service Centre in Pretoria.

According to SAPS national police spokesperson Brig Athlenda Mathe, the altercation began after the woman became dissatisfied with the service she received regarding the commissioning of an affidavit.

“Preliminary reports indicate that the woman had requested the commissioning of an affidavit that had already been signed,” Mathe said.

“She was advised that, in accordance with prescribed procedure, an affidavit must be signed in the presence of a Commissioner of Oaths. The woman allegedly became dissatisfied with the explanation, resulting in a commotion during which she allegedly assaulted a police officer.”

The suspect was released later that night on a warning and is scheduled to appear in the Hatfield magistrate’s court on October 12.

TimesLIVE reached out to the EFF for comment, and its response will be added once received.
