Bail ruling expected in Van Reenen Coetzee’s Emfuleni fraud case

The Vanderbijlpark Magistrates’ Court is expected to hand down a bail decision in the Emfuleni fraud case involving Janitha van Reenen Coetzee.

Coetzee, who is charged with theft, fraud, money laundering and tampering with essential infrastructure, appeared alongside the seven accused in the Emfuleni Municipality electricity reconnection scam.

It is not clear at this stage if the eight accused are in any way linked with the murder investigation into the death of whistleblower Martha Mani Rantsofu.

The acting accountant at Emfuleni uncovered and raised the alarm about massive corruption, tender rigging and fraud at Emfuleni Municipality.

The other seven accused were granted bail of R20 000 each.
