Over 1000 runners hit the Makhonjwa mountains
Over 1000 athletes have participated in this year’s Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency Makhonjwa 4-in-1 marathon in Barberton.
Athletes and tourists across the country took part- running through the scenic Makhonjwa Mountains.
The race featured four race options, 42.2km, 21.1km, 10km, and 4.9km.
It is a qualifying event for both the Comrades Marathon and the Two Oceans Marathon.
The participants in this year’s 4-In-1 race at Makhonjwa World Heritage Site in Barberton say the race was tough, but very interesting.
Over 1000 athletes participated in the race- promoting and marketing tourism in the province.
The female winner, Nomvula Sithole from Nkomazi described the race as one of the most difficult races she had ever ran and it has been giving her challenges.

I was expecting it because I came prepared I was training so hard for this race, so I’m happy with this race with the first position the time is bad but im so happy with the first position.
I’ve planned a lot about this prize money but I can’t explain here,” says Sithole.
Ayanda Ngcobo from Pine Town in KwaZulu-Natal won the male category.
Ngcobo says he ran the Makhonjwa marathon for the first time.
