Over 900 arrested in GP through Operation Shanela
Gauteng police say they have arrested more than 900 suspects across the province during the latest multi-disciplinary Operation Shanela, conducted simultaneously across all five Gauteng policing districts.
Police say the suspects include those linked to crimes such as murder, robbery and assault.
Provincial police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi says, “The arrests demonstrate the continued efforts by Gauteng detectives to pursue suspects linked to serious and violent crimes and ensure that they are brought before the courts to face the allegations against them.
The second phase of the operation focuses on crime prevention and the disruption of criminal activities.
It includes various crime prevention actions such as roadblocks, high-visibility patrols, stop-and-searches, liquor compliance inspections and other intelligence-driven interventions.” X | @SABCNews | #ICYMI Over 1000 suspects have been arrested for various offences during police-led Operation Shanela 2 across Mpumalanga over the weekend. https://t.co/Njw2rCbUrC pic.twitter.com/uIQbxA5OLJ — SABC News (@SABCNews) August 24, 2026 WATCH | Operation Shanela is underway in Eldorado Park |
