Police respond to sporadic looting in Durban CBD

Police are responding to sporadic looting in and around the Durban CBD following violent clashes earlier today.

The violence broke out after reports that foreign nationals attacked one of the people who had taken part in a march against gender-based violence.

The incident sparked further unrest, with several foreign-owned shops damaged or looted and at least 14 vehicles set alight.

Businesses in the CBD were forced to close as police used rubber bullets to disperse crowds.

A group of people who began marching along Anton Lembede Street has since been dispersed by police as they continue to monitor the situation.
