EMPD Chief Mkhwanazi’s case postponed

The case of suspended Ekurhuleni Metro Police Deputy Chief Julius Mkhwanazi and three others has been postponed to September 18 in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court .

The case is related to the theft of precious stones worth nearly R15 million.

Mkhwanazi’s co-accused, known as Witness K, previously implicated him in the alleged operation during her testimony before the commission.

Witness K testified before the Madlanga Commission that the operation was allegedly orchestrated by Mkhwanazi and that they each received 110 000 from the proceeds.

Mkhwanazi has denied the allegations and claims Witness K fabricated the story out of bitterness after he ended their brief romantic relationship in 2023.

The alleged theft happened in 2023, when the stones were reportedly taken from a property in Killarney, Johannesburg, during what was allegedly presented as a police operation.
