SAPS activates multidisciplinary response after airport bomb threat

SABC News ·

Police in the Eastern Cape have activated a multidisciplinary response team following a bomb threat at the King Phalo Airport.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana says the police received an anonymous call alleging the presence of a bomb on an aircraft that landed at the airport.

Gantana says all 184 passengers on board have safely disembarked.

“A multi-disciplinary response team has been activated and is on scene.

This includes the Bomb Disposal Unit, K9 Explosive Detection Dogs, Hostage Negotiators, Disaster Management and Airport Security Emergency Medical Services.

The scene is being managed by the relevant authorities, and investigations into the origin of the threat are ongoing.

No further information is available at this stage,” adds Gantana.
