Meyiwa trial focuses on accused’s movements before murder

The State has accused Mthobisi Mncube of contradicting himself about who he was travelling with on October 26, 2014, the day the late Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa was shot and killed.

State prosecutor Ronnie Sibanda says Mncube’s legal representative previously told the court that he was travelling in a minibus taxi with Celimpilo Ndawonde and some of the other accused in Johannesburg that morning.

However, Mncube disputes this, saying they met Ndawonde in Vosloorus on Gauteng’s East Rand.

The State is cross-examining Mncube in the High Court in Pretoria about his movements leading up to Meyiwa’s murder.

Accused number three, Mthobisi Mncube, in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, is expected to continue with his testimony at the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Wednesday. https://t.co/qIZSmqeGnO https://t.co/5zkN4dXzF8 — SABC News (@SABCNews) October 21, 2026 Sibanda says establishing who Mncube was travelling with is important to assessing his credibility.

He asked Mncube whether he had said he was with Ndawonde in Johannesburg on the morning of October 26.

Mncube responded: “We found Celimpilo in Vosloorus where he was residing.

If it is, then that my legal representative said it or put it in the manner that Celimpilo was with me in the morning in Johannesburg, it is because I was mentioning the people in whose company I was with on that particular day.

It is because I was staying in town.

It is possible that he then thought that I was saying that I was with him there at that particular time.

It is because I was mentioning the people that I was with on that day.” VIDEO | Senzo Meyiwa Murder Trial | 21 October 2026
