Mogotsi back in court on Friday
Self-proclaimed political fixer Brown Mogotsi is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
He faces charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, perjury and defeating the ends of justice.
The charges emanate from an alleged staged assassination attempt on his own life in Vosloorus.
The case returns to court as the defence seeks further information on the details of witnesses from the State, before the matter can proceed to the setting of a trial date.
During previous proceedings, Mogotsi’s lawyers expressed dissatisfaction with the State’s response to their request for further particulars and are expected to argue an application to compel the State to provide the outstanding information.
The defence has requested cellphone records of State witnesses, employment records for witness A5, proof of residence for witnesses A5 and A6, as well as unredacted statements and images extracted from video footage from the scene.
The defence argues that the outstanding information is necessary to prepare Mogotsi’s case and ensure a fair trial. – Report by Culvin Mabasa.
