Lamola hails Mozambique’s handling of SA’s immigration crisis
International Relations and Cooperation Minister Ronald Lamola has assured the citizens of Mozambique that a lot is being done to ensure that they live in peace and harmony with South Africans.
This follows several incidents of violence in certain parts of South Africa attributed to migration concerns.
Lamola was delivering a message on behalf of South Africa at the 40th anniversary of the airplane crash that claimed the life of the former Mozambican President, Samora Machel and 34 others.
He has also welcomed the manner in which the Mozambican government handled the matter.
Minister Ronald Lamola joined Mozambican President Daniel Francisco Chapo and other officials from South Africa and Mozambique at the Samora Machel Monument in Mbuzini to pay tribute to the late former Mozambican President Samora Machel and the 34 others who lost their lives in the 1986 plane crash. #40thAnniversaryOfMbuziniTragedy #SamoraMachel #GovZAUpdates — South African Government (@GovernmentZA) October 19, 2026 “In light of the sustained and well-resourced campaigns that use disinformation to sow division and undermine the rule of law – and some of this misinformation and disinformation has come through our sister countries like Ghana and Nigeria – we want to thank the people of Mozambique and the government of Mozambique that while South Africa is dealing with the immigration crisis, President Chapo has raised this very sharply, but diplomatically.
He never grandstands in any international platform to cast aspersions and doubt on South Africa as a country,” says Lamola.
