Matlala returns to Madlanga Commission’s hot seat

Attempted murder accused and businessman Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala returns to the Madlanga Commission on Tuesday morning.

Matlala is expected to address omissions in his supplementary affidavit, including references to several senior police officials.

He has repeatedly invoked his right against self-incrimination, refusing to answer some questions before the commission on the basis that certain matters are before the courts.

One of the individuals Matlala has declined to answer detailed questions about is suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya.

Matlala has testified that he interacted with Sibiya on several occasions and met him three or four times regarding a Department of Public Works lease dispute.

He also confirmed attending an engagement party for one of Sibiya’s children.

However, Matlala refused to elaborate on the full nature of their relationship, telling the commission that the matter is under investigation and that answering certain questions could incriminate him.

He also declined to comment on allegations relating to benefits allegedly provided to Sibiya.
