Direct marketers asked to register their businesses on Opt-Out system
The Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Parks Tau, has called on direct marketers to register their businesses on the National Opt-Out system.
Tau says if the business is not registered, it cannot send consumers direct marketing messages for goods and services through unsolicited electronic communication.
The minister says registration for telemarketers is open until December this year to give businesses enough time to adjust.
Following that, businesses will be given five months to cleanse their systems before the law is fully enforced in April 2027.
“Every direct marketer must register on the registry and renew their registration every year.
An unregistered marketer may not contact any consumer for direct marketing.
Every registered marketer must cleanse its lists against the registry every month before running any campaign.
And every communication must be traceable with the marketer’s name, address and contact number.
No hidden numbers, no untraceable sources,” says Tau.
