Home Affairs moves to strengthen asylum application controls

Home Affairs Minister Dr Leon Schreiber says the department will introduce a phased, structured intention-registration and appointment model for asylum seeker applications by the 10th of November.

Schreiber says the system will allow the department to add more security features to avoid abuse by applicants.

He says his department wants to prevent applicants from re-applying after being rejected.

What did the Court actually decide? How did we get here? And what is Home Affairs doing about it? Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber sets the record straight.

Watch.

Get the facts.

Share the truth. — Democratic Alliance (@Our_DA) October 11, 2026 Schreiber was addressing the media in Pretoria, during a briefing by the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Migration.

“This biometric platform will require anyone who wants to apply for asylum to upload biometrics, which we will then verify.
