SAPS issues urgent call for Simiso Silomo Phakathi to surrender in girlfriend's murder case

Simiso Silomo Phakathi is wanted by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in connection with a murder in Orlando East, Soweto.

Hand yourself over! This is the message circulating from the Police to an alleged murder suspect, Simiso Silomo Phakathi, on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said Phakathi, 27, must hand himself over to the nearest police station. Police accuse him of stabbing his girlfriend to death in Orlando East, Soweto.

Police said Jabulisile Josephina Tshabalala, 37, his live-in girlfriend, was found on August 13 inside the backroom where she had been residing with Phakathi. Her body was found covered with blankets and clothes. Tshabalala was last seen alive on August 7, 2026.

“A warrant of arrest for murder has been issued against Phakathi. The SAPS is issuing a firm warning for him to hand himself over to the police without delay. There is nowhere to hide, and police will continue pursuing every lead until you are brought before a court of law,” Mathe said.

Police consider him dangerous. The police also appeal to anyone who may have information that could assist investigators to come forward.

“Do not harbour or assist a wanted suspect. Information provided to the police could be critical in ensuring that justice is served,” Mathe said.

As the country marks Women’s Month, the SAPS reiterates that violence against women is intolerable. Mathe said police are intensifying its fight against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF), including the tracing and apprehension of suspects wanted in connection with crimes against women, children and vulnerable groups.

“Those responsible for such heinous crimes will be pursued and brought before the courts to face the full might of the law,” she said.

Anyone who sees Phakathi or has information on his whereabouts is urged to immediately contact Warrant Officer Zwane on 082 455 8572 or report to the nearest police station.
