PSG boss Gouws touts advice-led growth model

PSG Financial Services is set to report total assets beyond R600bn for the first time in its 28-year history when it reports its full-year results for 2027, with its advice‑led model geared to grow and protect its clients’ wealth, giving the group a competitive edge in the market.

The group, led by Francois Gouws , this week reported assets of R594bn at the end of the six months ended August 2026.

Having joined the group in 2012, Gouws was appointed as CEO in July 2013 — a pivotal year as the group restructured and streamlined multiple business units into three divisions: PSG Wealth, PSG Asset Management, and PSG Insure.

PSG Wealth offers comprehensive wealth management services to individuals, families, and businesses, while the asset management unit offers local unit trusts, global funds, and segregated portfolios for individual and institutional investors.

The more focused businesses have put the group in great stead, its assets having surged by R440bn since the 2016 financial year.

In the six months under review, PSG Wealth reported R504.9bn in assets, an increase of 12%, including R12.8bn of positive net inflows. The division’s financial adviser network consists of 663 wealth advisers.

PSG Asset Management reported a 30% surge in assets to R89.2bn on net client inflows of R5.5bn during the six months.

The division’s results for the period were damaged by lower performance fees. Management fees, however, increased 20%.

PSG Insure’s results were affected by challenging insurance market conditions and lower investment income amid weaker securities markets.

The group reported a 5% increase in recurring headline earnings per share and a return on equity of 26.5%, returning 22c per share to shareholders, up from 20c in the period before.

Gouws said the group achieved these results against a challenging operating backdrop, with securities market conditions much less favourable than the previous comparable period.

“PSG Wealth nevertheless performed in line with historical trends; PSG Asset Management’s earnings were negatively impacted by lower performance fees, while PSG Insure’s investment income was much lower than the previous equivalent period, with its underwriting result adversely impacted by the Western Cape storms,” he said.

“Notwithstanding these headwinds, the performance of our key operating and financial metrics demonstrates our competitive advantage and the resilience of our advice-led business model.”

Gouws, who led the group to its listing in 2014, expressed confidence about the company’s long-term growth prospects on continuing investment in technology and people.
