Heilbron, surrounding areas to fall under Metsimaholo after elections
Heilbron and the surrounding affected farming areas are set to become part of Metsimaholo Local Municipality following the 4th November local government elections.
This marks a significant change in the local government landscape of the Fezile Dabi District in the Free State.
Communications Manager for Metsimaholo Local Municipality, Dr Gino Alberts, says the transition follows the re-determination of municipal outer boundaries.
He says the changes will see the area currently administered under Ngwathe Local Municipality incorporated into Metsimaholo, which includes Sasolburg, Deneysville, Oranjeville, Viljoensdrift and surrounding farming areas.
“The implementation of the new municipal configuration is aligned with the 2026 Local Government Elections, which are scheduled for 4 November 2026.
This means that the election will not only determine the new political leadership of municipalities, but will also mark an important administrative milestone in the implementation of the new municipal boundaries,” says Alberts.
He says preparations for the transition are already under way.
“Officials from Metsimaholo Local Municipality and Ngwathe Local Municipality have been working together through a series of engagements and dedicated workstreams to ensure that the incorporation is implemented in a coordinated, orderly and responsible manner,” he adds.
