Former police officer found guilty of fraud, money laundering in NC

A former Northern Cape police officer has been found guilty of fraud and money laundering.

SAPS Head of Financial Services at ZF Mgcawu District in Upington, Pieter Nel, pleaded guilty to authorising false payments which were deposited into his personal bank account.

He defrauded the police of R1.2 million between 2022 and 2024.

Provincial Hawks spokesperson Tebogo Thebe says, “Former police officer Lt.

Col.

Pieter Andrews Nel pleaded guilty to 80 charges of fraud and 80 charges of money laundering.

Upington Serious Criminal Crimes Court found the former officer guilty.

Nel was dismissed from his employment on 12 September 2024 as a result of this offence.
