Two top performing Chatsworth pupils hospitalised after attack by classmates and adult men after school
Two Grade 11 pupils from Southlands Secondary School were hospitalised after an alleged assault involving two female pupils and three adult men outside the Chatsworth school.
Their families say the incident followed a dispute over an alleged bullying incident.
The pupils, who are due to compete nationally for the school’s robotics team in a few weeks, were attacked on Tuesday after school.
In footage captured on a cellphone, a Grade 11 boy could be seen being assaulted by three adult men.
The same men are then seen kicking the boy to the ground, and then repeatedly kicking him in his face.
The footage then captured a Grade 11 girl being dragged onto the ground a few metres away from where the boy was being assaulted.
Two girls in school uniform are shown dragging the Grade 11 girl on the road, before slapping and kicking her, and picking her up by her hair.
Claude Subramodey, spokesperson for Amawele Emergency Service, said he was called out by residents living near the school.
He said when paramedics arrived, they found the boy and girl bleeding with head injuries.
Zaihira Naidoo, the Grade 11 girl’s mum, claimed the fight stemmed from a bullying incident that occurred in school that morning.
Her daughter sustained two broken teeth, clotting to both her eyes, and injuries to her neck, head, and body.
She said her daughter and the boy who were attacked were both a part of the school’s robotics team.
“They were walking together and the two girls accused my daughter of bumping into them.
“They were demanding an apology from my daughter and the boy. The two explained that they did not push them, and that if they had bumped into them accidentally and it was not intentional.
