Governance summit confronts municipal failures
Governance faces intense scrutiny ahead of the Local Government Elections, as the Chartered Governance Institute prepares for its 16th Premier Corporate Governance Conference in Johannesburg on 16 and 17 September.
Convening under the theme “Fault Lines and Futures: Corporate Governance at the Crossroads”, the summit tackles challenges including municipal collapse, failing infrastructure, whistleblower protection and rapid AI adoption.
CGISA Chief Executive Stephen Sadie says, “Water is a critical issue in South Africa.
We’ve seen that recently, you know, people have been complaining about water cuts and people have been protesting that their water has been shut off for a few days, sometimes a few weeks.
We know we live in a water-scarce country.
The western half of the country receives less water…” “The eastern half, KZN and Eastern Cape, receives more water, and sometimes we’re even flooding in those areas.
Exacerbated by climate change, but the long and short of it is we lose about 50% of our water from the dams before it gets to our taps,” Sadie says.
