Miller time as Wallaroos run rampant in Aussie return

Desiree Miller created some neat history as the Wallaroos hit top gear in a 56-12 defeat of Scotland in Sydney.

Shifted to fullback, the speedster scored tries from near-identical plays off scrums as Australia scored 42 consecutive points in a Saturday lunchtime banquet at Accor Stadium.

With her opening try she became the first Wallaroo to have scored 20 Test tries.

Scrumhalf Samantha Wood pulled the strings and kicked well while Randwick winger Amelia Whitaker scored her maiden try and Maya Stewart crossed on return from an Achilles injury.

The eight tries to two victory, in the Wallaroos' first Test on home soil since April, followed their 30-10 win over Scotland in Edinburgh last month that broke a run of six Test losses.

Scotland scored first when Katie Buchanan latched onto a long ball and cut back inside to create a 5-0 lead.

But the Wallaroos settled and, after threatening to barge over on multiple occasions, eventually found joy with a try to hooker Brittany Merlo.

That breakthrough opened up the Scottish defences and the Wallaroos picked it apart with another five tries inside the next 30 minutes of play.

Scotland eventually fired a shot through Rachel Malcolm but Whitaker bobbed up again with a sharp intercept and blazing long-range effort to score her second try.

Eva Karpani, also back from injury, then capped the Wallaroos' dominant day with a rampaging try, dragging three defenders over the line on the buzzer.

The match was the first course of a historic quadruple header on Saturday, with Australia's sevens men's and women's teams also set to play before the Wallabies face the All Blacks later on Saturday.
