P-plater allegedly over limit with eight people in ute on Macca’s run in Helensvale
A P-plater has copped a spray from police — along with an almost $1000 fine and a court date — after allegedly carrying seven passengers, including three people crammed into the tray of his ute, to avoid paying for an Uber for a Macca’s run.
Officers also ordered a passenger to go back and pick up rubbish they had witnessed being thrown from the vehicle, as they gave the group a dressing down for their “incredibly dangerous” decisions.

The driver, a 17-year-old from Pacific Pines, was later charged with drink driving and carrying unrestrained passengers, an fined $966 for several traffic infringements.
State Highway Patrol officers allegedly spotted a blue dual-cab ute with a covered tray driving recklessly near Discovery Dr in Helensvale, Gold Coast , before intercepting the vehicle on nearby Ridgevale Dr about 1.45am on Wednesday.
Police bodycam vision captures the ute drifting between lanes, with rubbish seen flying from the window, before officers switch on their lights and pull the vehicle over.
“Whoa. Bit of a drift there,” a male officer said in the footage, before a female officer responds: “Dear, oh dear. Not sure how mum would feel him driving it like that.“
The female officer then notices people in the rear tray. “Far out. This is ridiculous,“ she said after stopping the ute.
The officer asked the driver if he has had anything to drink, with the teenager allegedly telling her he had consumed alcohol “a couple of hours ago”.
He told officers he and his friends had been to Surfers Paradise, returned about 11.40pm and then gone to McDonald’s before heading home.
A roadside breath test (RBT) allegedly returned a reading of 0.022 per cent, which is above the zero alcohol limit for a P1 licence holder.
“Explain to me why two people sit in the tray of your ute with no seatbelts on,” the officer said.
The driver corrects her, telling her there were three people in the tray and explaining: “We didn’t want to pay for an Uber.”
“You didn’t want to pay for an Uber? Are you serious?” the officer responded.
