Missing wheelie bins spotted in Perth backyard visible from space

Dozens of missing wheelie bins have been captured from space sitting in a Perth home’s backyard.

Residents in the inner city suburbs of Highgate and Mount Lawley have been reporting missing bins on social media.

One restaurant owner said he had 20 bins stolen from his business and was now being charged for replacements.

“The bins have been stolen from the street frequently after they have been emptied … and a few times from inside our venue through out back gate,” he said.

Satellite images from space show a sea of yellow, green and red bins sitting in a Mount Lawley backyard.

Residents who lived nearby commented that a person at the address had been hoarding for about a decade.

City of Vincent chief executive David MacLennan said the council was aware of community concerns about the missing bins.

“The city is unable to comment on individual properties or potential compliance matters involving residents,” he said.

“We encourage residents to report missing or suspected stolen bins on our website.

“Commercial bins and collection services are managed by private waste providers rather than the city. Businesses should contact their provider directly to report missing bins.”

The bizarre images have attracted plenty of comments online, with people saying they pity hoarders.

“It’s a terrible condition to have and it’s something they have almost no control over. But hands off my … bins,” one person said.

“I live in Highgate and have had my bin stolen twice. I never would have guessed that it was an elaborate bin steeling operation,” another person said.
