Sydney Swans veteran Harry Cunningham secures move to Adelaide Crows in unique trade period deal
Sydney Swans veteran Harry Cunningham is moving to Adelaide , but not via trade.
It’s understood the two clubs have agreed on an arrangement which will see the 32-year-old delisted by the Swans and selected by Crows in the AFL rookie draft.
Cunningham, a tremendously popular member of Sydney’s playing group since 2012, had received interest from several clubs in recent weeks as he explored a future in coaching.
Adelaide football boss Adam Kelly was eager to bring him in as a player on a two-year deal, with an eye to transitioning into coaching beyond that.
Cunningham played 232 games for the Swans, including the 2022 grand final.
His calf injury, suffered at training, saw him miss the club’s preliminary final loss to Fremantle last month.
His close friend and former teammate Tom Mitchell said on Trade Radio this week that Sydney had offered a one-year deal to Cunningham to stay.
“I think the Swans have offered a deal for 2027, so he will surely sign that,” Mitchell said at the time.
Cunningham was initially selected as a rookie in 2012 with the fourth-last pick (pick No.93) in the draft.
