Help Shape The Tyee’s Civic Election Reporting

On Oct. 17, British Columbians will go to the polls to elect mayors, councillors, school trustees, regional district representatives and other local government politicians who are responsible for everything from policing to urban planning to garbage pickup.

B.C. has 161 municipalities (including big cities such as Vancouver and Surrey, small towns like Creston, villages like Ashcroft and districts like New Hazelton) and dozens of regional districts and school boards. Even though municipal elections tend to get less attention and smaller voter turnouts than provincial and federal elections, we know our readers are particularly passionate about local politics. This is the level of government, after all, that determines whether your local pool will be replaced, how much new housing will be built and whether a bike lane will get added to a busy street.

At The Tyee, we like to provide a regional and a provincial view, although we’ll also be keeping close tabs on Vancouver. But no matter where you live in the province, we want to know the issues that matter most to you.
