India women lose 0-2 to Netherlands in second round of 2026 FIH World Cup

Indian women's hockey team lost to reigning Olympic and world champions Netherlands 0-2 in their second round match of the FIH World Cup here on Friday.

Yibbi Jansen (2nd minute) and Frederique Matla (38th) were the goal scorers for the hosts.

Both the goals were from penalty corners.

The loss meant that India will have to beat Australia in their last second round match on Sunday to have any chance of qualifying for the semifinals.

Australia also played out a 1-1 draw against China in an earlier second round match of the day.

India had made to the second round after playing out a goal-less draw against England in their final pool match on Thursday.

India had finished second in Pool D behind China.
