Four arrested after suspected drug lab discovered in Soweto
Four suspects between the ages of 21 and 25 were arrested on Friday after police discovered a suspected drug laboratory at a family home in Meadowlands, Soweto.
Gauteng police spokesperson Brig Brenda Muridili said the arrests followed an investigation into suspected drug-related activities at the property.
Muridili said police from multiple Gauteng units conducted surveillance at the premises on Thursday evening.
The team received information suggesting the suspects might be moving suspected drugs, prompting officers to proceed on to the property where the four were arrested.
The suspected drug-manufacturing operation was discovered in a room at the back of the family residence. Police also found a substantial quantity of pills suspected to have been manufactured elsewhere.
Crime-scene management officers are processing the scene, while equipment and chemicals found at the property will be seized for further investigation and analysis.
The suspects are expected to appear in court soon on drug-related charges.
