ConCourt to hear ANC’s appeal against Electoral Court list ruling

The Constitutional Court is Monday expected to consider the African National Congress’ (ANC) bid to challenge a decision that disqualified its candidate lists in six municipalities ahead of the November 4, 2026 Local Government Elections.

The Electoral Commission (IEC) says the ANC failed to meet the deadline for submitting its candidate lists.

The party argues that technical problems with the online nomination system affected its submissions.

The commision has disputed these claims, saying the system was working and that uploading information was not enough without a final submission.

The IEC says all political parties must comply with the same rules to ensure fair elections.

It is opposing the ANC’s application for leave to appeal the Electoral Court’s decision.

The commission is asking the Constitutional Court to dismiss the application, warning that any changes could affect preparations for the elections.
