Jouberton residents lament lack of access to justice
A new court building in Jouberton, outside Klerksdorp in the North West, is still under construction, years after its supposed completion date.
The Klerksdorp/Jouberton Magistrate Project will provide additional accommodation for the regional court, with the initial completion date set for November 2024.
However, progress has been slow, leaving residents with little access to justice.
People say the courts in the area are overburdened.
One resident says, “Our magistrate court in Klerksdorp covers the whole Dr Kenneth Kaunda district.
Cases are taking too long to be completed.
This is disadvantaging our community.” Another resident says, “We were happy as the community of Jouberton and Matlosana that we will at least have nearby services instead of travelling to town.” Another says, “I would be happy if the government can speed up this project because the court construction is still incomplete.
We don’t see any progress.” X | @SABCNews | North West Police are investigating the death of two children, aged three and four years old.
The children are said to have died after consuming snacks, bought from a local spaza shop in Jouberton near Klerksdorp. https://t.co/9SoXmu0tnd pic.twitter.com/7YIOR3CQiP — SABC News (@SABCNews) September 12, 2025
