SASSA seeks to recover R315 million from KZN public servants
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) has partnered with heads of provincial government departments to recover social grant money paid to public servants who are not eligible to receive the grants.
In April last year, SASSA announced the implementation of a social grant review aimed at preventing fraudulent payments and ensuring that grants reach eligible beneficiaries.
SASSA KwaZulu-Natal Regional Executive Manager Thamo Mzobe says public servants in the province owe the agency more than R315 million.
Mzobe says the partnership will focus on addressing fraud and corruption and recovering the money owed to the state.
“It is a great pleasure to announce the partnership that we have entered into with all heads of departments in all government departments in ensuring that we implement a zero tolerance for fraud and corruption by public servants who continue to draw grants illegally while they benefit from getting salaries from their employment.
And we are going to make sure that these monies are recouped from all the undeserving public servants that are stealing public money, and the public purse must not be abused through fraud and corruption.” RELATED VIDEO |Sassa biometric system saves R300 m, targets grant fraud: Tolashe
