Justice Mokgohloa’s passing described as a profound loss
The Ministry of Justice and Correctional Services has described the passing of Supreme Court of Appeal Judge Fikile Eunice Mokgohloa as a profound loss to the judiciary, legal profession and the people of South Africa.
Judge Mokgohloa died on Thursday following a long illness.
Chief Justice Mandisa Maya says Mokgohloa’s contribution to South African jurisprudence and her commitment to the law will form part of her enduring legacy.
Justice Mokgohloa was born in Pretoria in 1961 and entered the legal profession as a candidate attorney in 1990 before practising as an attorney.
She began her judicial career in the Northern Cape in 2006 and later served in the KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo divisions, where she became Deputy Judge President in 2016.
At the SCA, she presided over matters involving constitutional and administrative law, traditional leadership, criminal justice and commercial disputes, and also acted as Deputy President of the court in 2024.
The Office of the Chief Justice says funeral and memorial arrangements will be communicated in consultation with her family.
