Foundation warns of deadly consequences of cardiovascular disease

SABC News ·

The Heart and Stroke Foundation has warned that the growing burden of cardiovascular disease has deadly consequences.

This is as South Africa marks Heart Awareness Month.

The foundation has embarked on an awareness campaign.

It is focusing on coronary heart disease, heart failure, heart rhythm disorders, hypertension and prevention.

The foundation’s Courtney Du Plessis says, “The Heart and Stroke Foundation leads Heart Awareness Month every September to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease and encourage South Africans to take action to protect their heart health.

Heart Awareness Month is an opportunity to help people understand their risks, recognise warning signs, and promote prevention and early intervention.” “Because of the unhealthy lifestyles that younger people are leading, they are engaging in unhealthy lifestyles.

They are smoking and mainly vaping, which is more dangerous than actually smoking, increasing their risks of high blood pressure and heart disease,” adds Du Plessis.
