Garden Route sees light rain, disaster officials on standby

Light rain has started to fall in the Garden Route District Municipality in the Western Cape, where disaster officials are on standby.

This is as the South African Weather Service (SAWS) issues a warning for heavy rainfall and strong winds in the region starting Thursday.

Disaster head Gerhard Otto has cautioned residents about using submerged roads and crossing overflowing rivers.

The region is still recovering from storms that caused severe damage to infrastructure in May and June.
