Three suspected robbers dead, two arrested in Joburg shootout
Three suspected robbers have been killed in a shootout with police in Johannesburg, while two others have been arrested.

It is reported that on the afternoon, 09 October 2026 a team of law enforcement officers followed up on crime intelligence information about a group of people using two vehicles reportedly on their way to commit a robbery at Roodepoort.
One of the vehicles, a white Mercedes-Benz, was spotted on Kliprivier road.
As the vehicle approached the traffic lights, the police attempted to stop it.
The suspects allegedly opened fire on the officers, who retaliated.
During the exchange of gunfire, the suspects’ vehicle lost control and collided with two civilian vehicles on the N12 road, resulting in injuries of three civilians.
The injured victims were transported to hospital for medical attention.
All three suspects in the vehicle were certified dead and two AK-47 rifles, multiple rounds of ammunition and magazines were found inside their vehicle.
The second vehicle, a white Audi was traced and found at Johanneaburg CBD.
Two suspects were arrested.
The Provincial Commissioner of the police in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni applauded the team comprising SAPS Organised Crime, Tactical Response Team (TRT), Anti-Gang Unit, Gauteng Traffic Airwing and CAP Specialised Operations and Tracker Connect private securities for their continued collaborative efforts in dealing with serious and violent crimes in the province.
He also reaffirmed the commitment of law enforcement agencies to act decisively on intelligence to prevent and disrupt planned criminal activities and ensure the safety of communities.
