Ramaphosa to lead SA group to Silicon Valley in push for AI prospects

President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that he will lead a delegation to Silicon Valley in the United States next month to explore new opportunities in artificial intelligence (AI).

He confirmed this during an engagement with journalists and editors in Sandton on Monday, during the commemoration of Black Wednesday.

The delegation will include, government officials, the business sector as well as university students.

This is in a bid to bridge the country’s digital gap and create employment opportunities in the sector.

Silicon Valley is the home and headquarters of some of the world’s largest tech companies.

Ramaphosa says AI could also create opportunities for journalists.

He says, “After the elections, I will be leading a group of people from government, from universities, young people, and all, and business, and will take along some of my comrades as well to the Silicon Valley, just to go and meet those big models of artificial intelligence, to get to understand exactly how it functions and how we can utilise it to our own benefit.” Ramaphosa adds, “Much as the dangers of AI are becoming more and more amplified, Artificial Intelligence, in my view, as I’ve come to understand it, offers extraordinary possibilities for journalists.” VIDEO | SANEF commemorates Black Wednesday:
