SABC confident of successful election coverage

SABC News South Africa ·

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) says it will deliver successful coverage of the November Local Government Elections despite financial constraints.

Three weeks before the elections, the SABC says it is still awaiting a response from National Treasury on its request for additional funding to support election coverage.

SABC Group Chief Executive Officer Nomsa Chabeli briefed Parliament’s Select Committee on Economic Development and Trade on its corporate plan.

Chabeli says the public broadcaster remains committed to covering the elections and is planning its deployment within its current financial constraints.

“We are still very much committed to delivering on election coverage within the constraints in which we exist.

We are, therefore, planning the coverage within our affordability, whilst we maintain that the ability to afford the deployment is still there should the funding become available,” she says.
